The spinifix covered hills of outback Australia hold mineral treasures for the modern exploration geologist. The main dye painted area of the quilt is overlaid with a geologic map, stitched in white, detailing drill holes and where they intersect the high grade deposit shown in yellow. The black lines of the eastings run vertically, while the horizontal lines are the relative levels. The continued Aboriginal association with the land is represented by the panel of print fabric with honey ants, kangaroo and bush tucker. Machine pieced, hand applique, 100% cottons dyed and painted, oil sticks, fusing, machine quilting and hand stitching. |
