91cm W x 125cm L [36in W x 49in L] The Dobbyn headframe was moved in the early 1900’s from Lion town near Charters Towers to its present location in NW Queensland where it was used in copper mining. A headframe is a steel structure that goes over the shaft and a system of ropes over sheaves connected to a steam winding engine hauled men, equipment and ore up from underground workings. The Dobbyn headframe is a Heritage protected item. The created fabric was made from oil stick rubbings of objects used daily by miners of the last century, such as English tobacco tins and buckets. This is the third quilt in my Mining series. Commercial and created fabric, oil sticks, paint, foils, fusing, machine writing, machine applique and piecing, machine quilting. |
