Artist Statement

Colour & stitch in textiles hold me captive & along with various surface design techniques I work to tell my story through my quilts. Inspiration comes from many sources…a walk in the bush, sunlight filtering through leaves in my garden, the urban landscape, a news snippet heard or just unfolding & fondling my hand dyed fabrics.

My responses to these inspirations are what you see in my work.

These days you might find me taking rubbings with oil sticks of sewer covers in Japan or down in the red rocky earth of an abandoned mine smelter, rubbing the equipment of last century. The memory & essence of a place or thing interests me & captures my imagination. I’m under its spell & give in to the creative impulse.
