WHOLLY HOLES AND OTHER EXPLORATIONS ©
2 days [suitable for those familiar with free motion stitching]
A class for the adventurous as we chart new territory and create fabric, machine stitched from holes, on a soluble base, rub objects with oil sticks, print and use angelina fibres and paint in our work. Small pieces are worked on and there is an opportunity to design a larger piece. A class to explore and play with paint, thread and machine quilting.
Materials fee applies
Please note - Originality is encouraged and assisted by Sue, so student's finished work will not necessarily be the same as the class samples shown.

FABRIC- 2 fat quarters hand dyed, batik or commercial cotton- preferably without a definite pattern or repeat, 2 fat quarters for backing
2 fat quarter pieces of thin wadding
A small 15cm [6in] square practise quilt sandwich of fabric used in your quilt
Wash-away included in materials fee
Machine embroidery hoop – I use the plastic & metal clip type for ease of movement, approx 6in diameter
Metallic threads, to contrast with your fabric, to create the holey fabric - choose a reliable brand for ease of stitching. [I use Madeira] The colour selection isn't large – remember it’s not a realistic representation.
For use in the bobbin- metallic, rayons & cotton. Threads to blend & contrast with fabrics for quilting.
2 or 3 water soluble fabric paints to contrast with chosen fabrics- I love the metallics available in Pebeo Setacolor opaque range or Permaset etc. Perhaps 3 plastic teaspoons for scooping paint from large jars only.
Cutting mat, rotary cutter & 24in quilters ruler, scissors & pins
MACHINE FEET- Zigzag foot, walking foot & darning foot for free motion work
Quilting gloves
SEWING MACHINE- extension table, bobbins & machine quilting needles or Jeans 90 & Metafil 90 or 100 needles for metallics
