Contrary to the title this workshop is not about dog obedience! DOGS DOWN © is an introductory class designed for anyone wanting to learn the secrets of innovative free-motion quilting. Get started with free motion quilting [without a walking foot] and open the door of possibilities. Enjoy greater creative use of a basic sewing machine for quilting, textile art or garments. Machine writing is also covered.
Suitable for beginners and anyone wanting to go beyond just stippling.
REQUIREMENTS

As this is an introductory course we will practice on small sample pieces
2 x 16” square, quilt sandwiches pinned or spray basted ready for stitching – with a plain colour fabric on top
I prefer to use a low loft wadding, but experiment with different lofts if you have them
If you have a quilt top bring it for quilting ideas
Photograph below is an example of some free motion quilting motifs covered in class
1 x 16” square quilt sandwich with a large floral fabric on top – bring both matching and contrasting thread to background colour of floral piece
Sewing machine in good order and spare bobbin
Sewing machine extension table- this is essential – bring telephone books if you don’t have an extension table
Darning foot for free motion sewing
Can you drop your feed dogs or do you need to cover them? – check your sewing machine manual if you have never done this
A small variety of matching and contrasting threads – cotton or polyester, rayon, variegated or metallic
Machine quilting needles [75-90] or Jeans 90
Metafil needles if using metallics
Scissors
Tailors chalk, soap sliver or another for marking
24” quilters ruler for marking lines
Quilting, gardening [washed] or horse riding gloves for grip
Notebook, pen, name tag and coffee mug
